Hi all, headed out yesterday arv, for my annual night time whiting trip. Tide was a bit late, but i was busy Friday. Ended up taking the pooch, who is quite a whiz at digging yabbies, which was handy, as i pulled up at last light, and dug 180 pretty quick. i idled over to where i wanted to fish but it would be at least an hour before the tide was high enough to get in there. I found a bit of a drain, and let the northerly which didnt drop out, push me in close.
I threw a couple rods out, had a cup of tea, not hopefule as it was dark and still a while till the moon rose. After a couple minutes the rod bent over, and a nice 28 cm whiting came in. I think i managed another 10 letting the boat bump in. Once the tide rose, i moved to where i wanted to fish, and happy days, they were there.
It was steady without being great, and i made a run for home at 9, just as the first bit of rain started, and i had plenty to clean. A quick dark run up the river and it was beer time. There were also some massive bream mixed in which were released. Just finished cleaning them now, And i have tried skinning them today on the advice of a local whiting guru. Will let you know how they go. I found a couple under the ice and ended up with 26, only 3 under 25, so im happy with that.
