Bream chasing addict of tackle and all things fishy...
Personally I'm more concerned about other species in the Swan ie Cobbler and the Swan River Prawn, these are in serious decline.
We do have a stocking program for Bream possibly at the expense of the above mentioned, extra competition etc.
20 years ago Cobbler could be easily caught in the lower reaches, we used to go in the evening and catch a feed from Mounts Bay Rd, Bream didn't seem to exist in the lower reaches, up around Guildford Bridge was the place they were caught as mentioned in fishing books from that era and from personal experience you just didn't catch them downstream, so some food for thought has human intervention ie stocking upset the balance?
There has been moves recently to ban the use of phosphate fertilizers in the catchment areas so hopefully things will get better, I think that our children will be able to catch fish in the Swan in the future, optimistic outlook, lets hope
Hyper Tackle
Apparently there are prawns around again this summer but I haven't seen a cobbler in the river for a long, long time
