My brother promised my nephew a fishing trip for his birthday but like most things over the last while, the plans went up in smoke.
So when things started opening up again he booked a day out on the Hawkesbury, and I said sure I'd share the day.
The weather has been very ordinary of late, but today was a cracker. Unfortunately the lead up weather did leave the river in a bit of a sad state.
The idea for the day was to put some hurt on the kid having him buckled over on his biggest fish ever.
Started out burning hours putting together a pretty average haul of livies. But felt like we did the right thing in having the best chance of God fish, when we finally had baits in the water.
After sounding fish, getting nothing on the lights, and seeing sardine schools getting busted up we thought we might knock over a few tailor for a feed of fillets so we started throwing small zman streakz about while my nephew had a crack with a micro jig.
He was first on the board with a silver trev that he wanted for dinner. His first fish on artificial (besides a sabiki)

Next my brother got another little trev.
Things were looking bleak for me until...

This guy was a fun catch on the 8lb gear.
Different ball game to similar fish in the harbour - where it they take any drag you're getting done on some kind of structure, we caught this guy over sand and far enough off the bank side rocks to just enjoy the fun.
That signalled a nice little bite window and I got a couple of snapper and a couple of flathead.
Then my jerk of a brother one upped me by a few cm.

I don't normally take dead shots but this was a cool mixed bag.
